Am I a Soul Crusher?
This one seems to be close in spirit to the videos I posted from Sir Ken Robinson. How am I to stop crushing their little souls when that I what I am ordered to do?

R Grammar Gaffes Ruining The Language? Maybe Not
Here is an interesting article from NPR. I have to say that in many ways I agree with it. I remember when I taught as an adjunct at a community college and I would have students who wrote papers that were technically flawless, but also dry, dull, and lifeless. I much preferred papers that had a strong voice, interesting content, and a sense of adventure, even if they had some grammatical flaws. There is, of course, a time and a place for "correct" usage and I try to instill that knowledge in my students. I think I might share this article with my seventh graders this year and see what they have to say about it.

What do you think? I would really like to get a sense of where others stand in this concern.

How to Write by Colson Whitehead
Here is a little article from The New York Times Sunday Book Review. I like the ideas that Whitehead promotes in this article. It is a quick read, but a worthwhile one.

Another one by Sir Ken Robinson
An interesting animation of part of his talk on the need to shift educational paradigms...
Do Schools Kill Creativity? Interesting Talk.
Here is another TEDTalk on creativity. Are schools knocking the creativity out of children? In light of the previous TEDTalk I shared, is that something we can afford?
18 Minutes of Awesome!
This TEDTalk on the what the science of motivation has found is mind-blowing to me. What are the implications for educators and the makers of educational policy?

Your Brain On Fiction
I love to read. I love to encourage my students to read. I have always intuitively felt that readsing enlarged me, made me a more well-rounded person. Here is a link to an article that shows how brain scientists are discovering that fiction reading really does improve how we think and interact with others.
